Don’t Be This Type of Person When You Go to the Gym

Gym stereotypes. You either love them or hate them.
Doing your workout at a gym has its downsides. One of them is that you must share the equipment and the space with other people. Normally this isn’t bad, until you start to meet these 14 gym people types mentioned in a comical article from Buzzfeed.com.
From “Senor Tiny Shorts” to “Full Make Up Chick” to “Cellphone Douche”, these stereotypes will either make you roll on the floor laughing or make you go “eww”. Personally, I had a good laugh while reading it, so I thought I’d share it on this post.
The article is obviously made for laughs, but does it contain a hint of truth? Judging from comments a few readers left after reading the article shows that there are even more stereotypes than mentioned on the site. One of them includes “judgmental people who look down on everyone else’s workout”.
In fact, a few commenters even admitted to being one of the stereotypes. One woman admits to being the “Full Make Up Chick” – the girl at your gym who works out while wearing full make up. Maybe after you read the article, you’ll find yourself guilty of being one of these types of people?
On a more serious note, going to the gym has its advantages. You can ask other people to help spot you as you are lifting heavier weights. You can even make new friends at the gym, and that will boost your motivation when you are feeling lazy to workout.
However, if you’d rather avoid these stereotypes, then working out at home is fine also. You don’t have to build your own fancy and expensive home gym. In fact, you can get a great workout at home using just simple pieces of equipment, as explained in a chapter inside the Old School New Body book.
Maybe you don’t care about the people at the gym – you just punch in and punch out. Maybe you even enjoy the people there and all their weirdness. Maybe you want to avoid other people and go to the gym during the quietest hours (like I do). Whichever choice you make, make sure that you don’t become an annoying person yourself and end up being mentioned in a Buzzfeed article.
